Blog it

I have been asked to Blog. My first reaction was, “Nah, It’s OK, thanks.  I’d rather not.” Plus I have my weekly Western Mail column and my column in The Abergavenny Chronicle where my  ‘time served’ allows me to pretty much write about what I want to.  Isn’t that the same as a Blog?

Apparently not.  Apparently I ‘should’ be writing about things closer to the heart – like my menopause blogs.  Great.  I have done a Wing Walk, a parachute jump, and run across Wales barefoot.  I keep bees, have run my own business for over 30 years and am a Member of Mensa.  And yet it is my menopause blogs that have caught the eye and attention of a publisher.  Sigh.

Anyway, being a firm believer in ‘giving things a go’, here I am giving blogging a go. So far so good, I’d say. But I have yet to insert a photo and ‘post’ it all. How hard can it be? I’m on a Snow Day.  Snow Day’s in the country mean slow days, so I am able to indulge in a little screen time, in between feeding the animals and feeding the wood-burner. I can do this.

All this ‘bloody blogging malarky’ has come about as a result of pulling up my big girl pants and ‘promising’ to get back into the arena. I have had meetings with BBC Wales and a publisher and it’s all good, well mostly good. Apparently, I have to ‘get out there a bit more’. For someone who is thinking about how soon they can get back to their cottage before they have left the cottage, there could well be challenges ahead. But I’m willing to give it a go.

I have already agreed to a couple of celebrity interviews next month, as the interviewer, obviously, and a little less obviously, also to being interviewed for a TV channel about my barefoot journey.  And all these promises from a person who has only allowed photos of themselves to be taken from the back for the last year or so.  I blame the menopause for that, incidentally.  Actually I blame the menopause for every negative aspect of the last two years, but seeing as I feel that I may now be in the lee of the ‘change’, then I guess it may be time to change all that too.

We tend not to be good with change; I think we should be taught how to make changes earlier in life – maybe sitting in a different place in the classroom or moving subjects, teachers and classrooms around at short notice.  It would help us to become comfortable and familiar with change, rather than see it as something to be avoided or feared.  Most people are pushed into change – being pushed into anything isn’t clever.  A little blind faith is good, (as Yogi is demonstrating) and a good helping of courage, but then the more changes you make the more courageous you become.

Well, that’s my theory – the one that I am putting to the test. By blogging and by ‘getting back out there’.  Is there anything you want to change?  Been putting off?  Let’s start working that ‘change muscle’ and see how strong we can be … strong enough to keep blogging?
