Crikey December is here already. I feel distinctly unnerved by the speed at which the days are whistling by but as a friend reminded me “Time might fly by, but always remember you are the navigator!”
God only knows I have had enough practise at navigating through festive periods but I just don’t get any better at it – Christmas comes at the same time every year but I’m never ready.
Anyway, how’s this for an original present – jeans that you lease! Seriously!
I had a ‘city friend’ come and stay last weekend, which meant I was introduced to phrases like ‘circular economy’ and ‘green growth’ – which obviously means something different in my gardening world! I was also introduced to MUD jeans – I am familiar with both in isolation but put the two together and you have an example of green growth within the circular economy.
As a 23 year old, Bert van Son, CEO of MUD Jeans moved to China to work in the textile industry. His 30 years experience in the fashion industry made him see the impact fast fashion has on the environment and its factory workers and made him believe that there is an alternative way. In 2013 he introduced ‘Lease A Jeans’, an innovative approach to offer guilt-free consumption.
MUD Jeans allows customers to shop guilt free and do good for the environment, while looking fashionable and modern. If you like that sort of thing!
Lease A Jeans is a formula that keeps in mind the well-being of the earth and its resources. Rumour has it that on average 30% of garments in our wardrobes have not been worn for over a year. I know I have my ‘faithful fleece and jeans’ and not much else sees the light of day; so leasing is a guilt-free solution for conscious people that have a desire for newness.
After a year, or when the jeans are worn out, (or when they don’t fit any more …) you can send them back to MUD and try out a new pair. The old ones will be recycled to make new wonderful items.
Before Claire’s visit, if I had heard the phrase ‘hire your jeans’ I would have thought of Simon Cowell’s waistband but now when someone asks you ‘What did you do to help the world today?’, you can say I hire my jeans!
An original Christmas present though, I think you’ll agree!
