Yogi ‘Combats’ the Rain

When I was a kid, I remember Nan (Moosh) blaming long bouts of rain on God, who ‘had left his tap on’. So, will someone give Chris Bird a ring and ask him to go and sort out God’s plumbing?!

People are rather surprised to find we are still gardening in this weather but my Bank Manager insists! And although there has been a lot to do through January, I must admit that gardening chores are getting less – less in number and less fun – as you make more mess paddling around in the mud than you do good.

It’s getting tedious.

And for Yogi, my dog, too, who of course comes to work with me most days. She sulks if I leave her at home and won’t curl up on a coat in a shed or barn in case she misses out on something, and seeing her so wet and cold is far more depressing then being wet and cold myself.  So a solution had to be found.  I have tried a few dog coats in the past but she is a terrier-ist and I haven’t found anything that she is able to keep on whilst ferreting about in undergrowth and rolling in the unmentionable.

Until now. Drum roll please. I bring you the Hurtta Slush Combat Suit. It is fully waterproof and although not lined, I have found if she is dry then she can keep warm. And yes, I know it looks like a doggy boiler suit. One of the boys in work, Tim Batchelor, has even promised to buy her a tool belt and a tape measure to go with it.

Like all hardworking outdoor girls, Yogi isn’t fussed about what she looks like as long as she can stay warm and dry in work. And with her new Slush suit she does. I thought it was a bit flimsy at first but its tougher than it looks and has already survived lots of undergrowth interrogation, squirrel chasing, snow rolling and even the inevitable fox sh*t rolling too. Not surprisingly, it was originally designed to keep long haired dogs clean and dry.

Hurtta are a Finnish company with outlets worldwide and offer a fabulous range of effective outdoor clothing for dogs, as well as harnesses and other bits and pieces. And some of their products are particularly recommended for dogs with back and joint problems.

Yogi’s coat definitely isn’t a cheap option but it does the job and also looks really cute hanging up to dry next to mine every night!
